Life can become so monotonous and overwhelming for married couples. You may feel that you two are just going through the motions. You pass each other in the bathroom or kitchen getting ready for work or school and grabbing a bite to eat. You’ve accepted the fact that you two live separate lives, perhaps. Even if your spouse or significant other is too busy for you, has cheated, is on the verge of cheating, or is avoiding you…there is something you can do about this.
Less stress and more attention to yourself and your spouse is what’s needed. I recently watched a movie with Tina Fey and Steve Carell. The boring couple from New Jersey were in a mundane routine of daily living and just wanted to have a romantic evening in the city, yet they got caught up in a comedic adventure that lasted all night. This is what you need right now. You need time alone with your significant other to get the spark back in your relationship and to get back to the days where you were happy to see one another.
There is nothing more romantic than dating your husband or wife. It’s even more adventurous for engaged couples or single couples who’ve been together for a while. One spark can reclaim the passion you once felt before the everyday routine of house chores, homework, children, and work came into the picture.
Ideas for date night:
- dinner and a movie
- concert, theatre, or opera
- one night stay in hotel room (even if you live in town)
- picnic in the park under the moonlight and/or well-lit area
- have a family member, nanny, or friend take the kids out for the evening while you romance your spouse or significant other (even lock yourselves in your bedroom)
If you are on a budget with finances and cannot afford a date night just yet, small things can be done to bring the passion and butterflies back into your marriage or relationship. Try a massage, soft touch, a kiss, and even a wink. Make your significant other feel as if they are the most important person in your life at that moment, even amongst the chaos around you. You don’t have to be spontaneous to have a wonderful relationship. All you need is a willing spirit and an open heart and mind to make date night successful. Enjoy the time you have on this earth if you intend to continue your relationship. Otherwise, you have to ask yourself…If we cannot have fun together, why are we together?
